St. Nicholas Day
Today is a day to celebrate and recognize St. Nicholas, who dedicated his entire life to helping others. He is the subject of many legends, mostly known as the protector of children and sailors. He is celebrated today on the anniversary of his death for the impact he made during his lifetime. Many of his legends have become part of the traditions of modern day Santa Claus. Originally, shoes would be left by the fire to dry. St. Nicholas was know to let money for dowries and treats for the good boys and girls. The Christmas season in modern day is a time for family, traditions and gifts. But, this year may look a little different. The year has been full of challenges, isolation, stress and changes as we are adapting. But, we can still make the holidays special. Take time to go back to the roots of Christmas this year! Make time for your family living with you. Maybe even start a new holiday tradition like baking, an advent calendar, decorations or more.
